April 6, 2018

Dear Parents,

We had a great week after returning from “Spring” Break.  It still not feeling much like spring, is it?  The children were a little tough to settle down at the beginning of the week but they “got it together” by the end.

Today is the last day of the third marking period.  I have been administering quarterly benchmarks this week, which is why your child has not brought a book baggie home most days.  I will continue into the beginning of next week with this.  Report cards will go home on Friday, April 13th unless I am requesting a conference with you that day.  If I am requesting a conference with you, you will receive the report at our conference. Please return you’re the slip I sent you on Monday.

In Reading and Language Arts we have continued to work on strategies for word solving, finding facts in non-fiction books and this week particularly, we spent time drawing conclusions with details from the text.  This was very hard but the kids did great! Keep reading at home with your child, even if you feel s/he is becoming an independent reader.  It is important to model good reading behaviors throughout these early years.

In math we almost finished up our unit on comparing and ordering numbers.  Some children are still struggling as they often reverse the 2 digit numbers, particularly teens and decades plus 1. (12=21; 14=41; 81=18)  This makes it difficult to know which numbers are greater. Please work on this with your child at home. We will move on to Adding Groups of Tens next week.

Students will be dismissed at 12:50pm on Friday, April 13th.

Sincerely,

Andi Cammer
