December 1, 2017

Dear Parents,

Can you believe it is December already?  This year is flying by.  This was a busy week especially considering that the kids had TWO days of school last week and that was spent baking and feastingJ Thank you so much to all who sent in items and money for our Thanksgiving Feast.  It was a wonderful day.

In reading we are working on describing characters’ feelings, identifying complete sentences, and consonant clusters.  We continue to work on using strategies for word solving and using a resource to help.  In writing we are working on using complete sentences. Next week our spelling words will become more difficult for some.  We are finished with short vowel sounds and are moving on to digraphs. Please remember to work with your child nightly on reading and basic addition and subtraction facts. The concepts are getting more difficult and basic knowledge will be helpful to help grasp these higher level understandings.

Our trip to Proctors on Monday was terrific. Our group of kindergarten, first, second graders was the best in the theater.  We were all stunned at the behavior of some of the other groups but were so pleased and proud of our little old Jeffersonians! You should be proud as well! The show was great and had such a wonderful message…it never gets old.  We were also able to play on the playground, even though it was quite chilly!

This Tuesday was a special day called Giving Tuesday. It is celebrated each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. We talked about how we can “give of ourselves.”  The children were wonderful.  They came up with many ideas and did a writing project on Four Ways I Can Give of Myself”.  Some ideas they came up with were: help with dinner, wash the dishes, say kind things to their sister or brother, and give hugs.  Talk to your child about ways of “giving” that are not tangible…’tis the season after all!

Don’t forget about book orders this month.  They really do make great gifts.  So far I only have one order. Additionally, remember that we have an early dismissal next Friday, 12/8/17 for Teacher Workshops.  Students will leave school at 12:50.

Best,

Andi Cammer
