February 16, 2018

Dear Parents,

Our 100 festivities lasted most of the week and went very well. The children had a blast.  We read many books to go with our celebration, did extension projects, made 100 necklaces, spent time using a 100 chart and looked for the patterns in all the numbers. We also practiced writing up to 100 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.   One of our most fun projects this week was to take our pictures and “age” ourselves to 100 years old!!  It was a blast and the kids and I got some great laughs.  If you’re in the building, take a look at them hanging in the hallway and see how silly they are. The collections the children brought were great and they had fun sharing them with other classes.

Next week (after vacation) in math we will start a unit called Numbers and Operations in Base Ten.  This involves an understanding of place value, which can be very difficult for young children.

We will also do an author study on Dr. Seuss, as his birthday is the week we return.  On Friday, March 2nd your child will not need breakfast money; I will be cooking a very special breakfast in class.  Shhhhhh…it’s a secret for the kids.

Tomorrow is Random Acts of Kindness Day.  We talked about doing kind things for others over the break. Please encourage your child to do kind things this break. Please share them with me by filling out the bottom of this page and returning it on Monday after break.

Enjoy the weekend!

Andi Cammer
