Dear Parents,

We have been hard at work here in First Grade during this short week. We continued to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and all he did for our country.  We read about his I Have a Dream speech and we learned that this “dream” isn’t something that you have when you are asleep but rather something you hope or wish will happen in the future.  We even discussed our own dreams for the future.

In math we are learning about related facts in addition and subtraction.  This week we learned how these facts make a “Fact Family.” Most of the students are doing well with this.  Many students, however, are struggling with subtraction facts from 20.  This is a skill that they must master in first grade.  Please practice subtraction facts (including 2-dight minus 1-digit) at home nightly.

The second marking period ended last Friday.  Report cards are in your child’s folder today.  Please return the envelope on Monday as I reuse those each year.

We still have a lot of illnesses going around our classroom. Please remember that as per our policy found in the Parent/Student Handbook, children may not return to school until they are fever free (without the assistance of fever reducing medication) for 24 hours.  They also must be out of school for 24 hours from the last bout of diarrhea or vomiting.  I’m sure you understand that this is to prevent the spread of illness to others.

We are in need of paper towels.  I would appreciate it if anyone could send a roll.

Please remember to have your child read you our daily Morning Message in the evenings.  This is a great way to stay updated on our room and for your child to practice his/her fluency.

Have a great weekend,

Andi Cammer
