Dear Parents,

We had a busy week this week in first grade!  Next week will be even busier as we try to finish up some things before our Spring Break…YES, I said SPRING! Although spring begins Tuesday, this snow is not going away anytime soon so please continue to send cold weather gear. Hopefully we will get out to play during recess next week.

Next week we will begin writing friendly letters. We will start with a letter to the winner of this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.  We might also write to some of the other mushers.

We will continue to work on our math unit, Comparing and Ordering Numbers which includes adding and subtracting groups of tens to 2-digit numbers. This is VERY difficult for many of our little ones. Please work on these skills at home to help your child grasp them.

In science and social studies we will learn about the people and animals of Alaska.  We will read many texts and compare life there to our life here. Of course the differences aren’t as extreme this winter with all this snow.

We may have a visit from my friend Vic who runs sled dogs as a hobby.  I’ll keep you in the loop when I know.

Have a great St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow…I’ll be dining on corned beef. How about you?
