Dear Parents,

This was a very busy week in first grade. We now have 14 chicken eggs in our classroom incubator.  Joseph Bevilacqua brought us eggs from his chickens. The development takes 21 days, so we will continue to monitor their progress next week and write in our EGG JOURNALS.  We will candle the eggs next week to be sure they are fertile and hopefully we will see some embryos.  Next, we are beginning a unit on Animals That Hatch From Eggs.  We will be doing research projects during the month as well.

In math we are completing our Measurement Unit early next week.  We will then begin a Telling Time Unit.  The children would benefit from practicing telling time to the hour and half hour on an analog clock at home.

Next week we will also begin reading plays for guided reading. We will be working on following along in the text, knowing when it’s their turn to speak, using a good voice for the character, and using the print features (bold print, CAPITAL LETTERS, and italics) to express meaning.  Reading this genre is not an easy task for children this age so they will need some support at home.

The 4th and 5th graders are still collecting loose change for their field trip in June.  If you have any to donate please send in with your child.  The winning class gets an ice cream party. We are in second place right now…so send in those pennies!!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Andi Cammer
