November 17, 2017

Dear Parents,

I enjoyed getting a chance to speak to so many of you last Thursday for conferences.  Keep up the great work at home. If you were unable to come, please let me know when a good time to meet would be.  I can arrange my schedule as needed to meet yours.

Thank you to all who sent in items to help with baking for our Thanksgiving Feast.  Please remember to send in your requested item and $1.50 if you haven’t done so.  We are baking on Monday.  The feast is Tuesday at 1:15. The children need a healthy and substantial snack for Tuesday to help sustain them until the dinner which is more than 2 hours past their regular lunch.

We have been reading a lot about the history of Thanksgiving.  The children are learning about the Pilgrims, Massasoit, and Squanto and that first winter in America.  Please ask your child what s/he can remember from our lessons. We have also been talking a lot about the Native people who were already here when the Pilgrims arrived.

I am considering having a parent workshop about how to best assist your child with reading at home.  I am unsure of the date, but if you think you would be interested in attending please let me know so that I can schedule a time that works for most.

Thank you to all who are working hard at home on the assignments in the reading bags.  As you may have noticed, there is more writing being included. Please assist your child as needed but be sure s/he is the one completing the assignments. This includes writing his/her name, the date, the actual writing and especially the drawing and coloring of pictures. Please do not allow your child to do the work in pen.  If you need a pencil please let me know and I will send one in the baggie for you.

Because there are only 2 days next week, I may not send a weekly letter, so be sure to remember that the field trip to Proctors Theater is Monday after Thanksgiving.  Please feed your child breakfast as they will not have time to eat here at school. Our 2 classroom chaperones are Mr. Hejnal and Mrs. Robin Merwin.
