Dear Parents,

We had a WONDERFUL week in First Grade! This class is a great bunch of kids who are excited about learning and want to work hard!  I have been busy completing Beginning of the Year Assessments on all the students this week and establishing classroom routines. The students also received their first spelling test of the year.  The tests will be on Fridays. This week we practiced the words every day. After this we will practice less in school and you will need to practice the words nightly at home each week.

If you are sending money with your child be sure to put it in an envelope with your child’s name, what the money is for, and then put it in your child’s folder rather than the backpack.  ALL notes and correspondence MUST be in your child’s Take-Home folder.  Also, it is expected that you will check your child’s folder nightly, read what is sent home and unpack it.  There is usually completed work and notes from me and the school in there.

Next week the children will begin bringing home books and homework (Mondays-Thursdays) in a HOMEWORK baggie.  There may be some nights that there is no work but you can plan on it most evenings. This baggie MUST be returned the next morning with all the work in it.  Anything that is to be left at home will be in the Take-Home folder.  Please don’t send homework back in the folder; leave it in the BAGGIE. Also, please do not put library books in our Take Home Folders.  They are too big and bulky and ruin the folders.

Next week we will be learning about the Constitution of the United States.  We will use our U.S. Constitution as a way to talk about rules and how they protect us and our friends.

In science we are learning about Monarchs.  We have SO MANY in here to observe and watch grow.  Today we did our first REAL science observation lab.  The children did AMAZING!! I am so in love with these kids!

Enjoy the weekend,
